ACE Limited is a Bermuda-based insurer.  Stone Point Capital, through its predecessor operations, co-sponsored the formation of ACE in 1985 in response to the severe shortage of liability underwriting capacity during the mid-1980’s.  ACE initially provided high-level excess liability insurance and directors’ and officers’ liability insurance primarily for commercial and industrial enterprises.  The company has since expanded into most other lines of property and casualty insurance and had a market capitalization in excess of $19 billion as of January 2007.

XL Capital Ltd. is a Bermuda-based insurer.  Stone Point Capital, through its predecessor operations, co-sponsored the formation of XL in 1986 in response to the severe shortage of liability underwriting capacity during the mid-1980’s.  XL initially provided excess liability insurance and directors’ and officers’ liability insurance primarily for commercial and industrial enterprises.  The company has since expanded into most other lines of property and casualty insurance and had a market capitalization in excess of $12 billion as of January 2007.

Mid Ocean Limited was a Bermuda-based company.  Stone Point Capital, through its predecessor operations, co-sponsored the formation of Mid Ocean Limited in 1992 in response to a severe shortage of reinsurance capacity in the property catastrophe market in the early 1990’s.  Mid Ocean was the first of several property catastrophe reinsurers formed in response to the market dislocation in the early 1990’s.  Mid Ocean was ultimately purchased by XL Capital Ltd. In 1998 for approximately $2.9 billion.

Hiscox PLC was established in 1993 to provide corporate capacity to syndicates managed by the Hiscox Agency, one of Lloyd’s largest managing agencies, with approximately £360 million of capacity under management. The Hiscox Agency established a franchise in the insurance of fine arts, private planes, yachts, vintage automobiles, high value homes and professional indemnity.

Venton was a Bermuda-based holding company established by Trident I in November 1994 to acquire an ownership interest in the Venton Underwriting Agency at Lloyds.  Venton’s underwriting activity targeted international property and casualty reinsurance, traditional marine lines of business, war and energy risks, financial institutions and professional indemnity business.
